Trump to host Saudi crown prince at White House; defence and AI on agenda

04:37 Min

The White House is preparing to welcome Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The de facto Saudi leader is on his first visit to the US since 2018, when the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi branded him a pariah by then-President Joe Biden. Both nations are now seeking to solidify defence and economic ties, after US President Donald Trump's trip to Saudi Arabia in May, where he secured a US$600-billion investment from the kingdom. Mr Trump is also expected to advance the sale of US F-35 fighter jets and push for Riyadh to normalise relations with Israel. Kate Fisher reports from Washington DC.
