The Australian government is set to split its proposed bill on hate speech and gun reforms,
and remove a racial vilification offence from the law, after lawmakers and members of public
raised free speech concerns to the combined legislation. Hundreds of Australians rallied in Sydney on Jan 16 against the bill giving police greater powers to restrict public demonstrations.
