Baey Yam Keng on Climate-Friendly Households Programme
The Climate-Friendly Households Programme aims to encourage 1-, 2- and 3-room HDB households to switch to resource-efficient and climate-friendly appliances - refrigerators, LED lights and shower fittings. A survey by the National Environment Agency (NEA) had found that a S$150 voucher was enough to defray the average incremental cost of energy-efficient refrigerator models. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment Baey Yam Keng said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 5). An MP had asked if the ministry would consider increasing the value of the voucher, given “the significantly higher cost of a three-tick refrigerator”. Mr Baey also said NEA and PUB have been working with community partners to improve the take-up rate of the programme and are conducting a review to see if it could be extended to cover more appliances.
