Baey Yam Keng on Constitution and Penal Code Amendment Bills relating to Section 377A
The repeal of Section 377A is the "right thing" to do to ensure that Singapore is an inclusive and diverse place to live in and for everyone to be part of, said Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment and Transport Baey Yam Keng. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Nov 28), he said as Singapore takes a step towards becoming more tolerant and inclusive, it must protect the prevailing definition of marriage. He also stressed the need to continue to maintain discretion in the display of affection. While Singapore aims to be more progressive, it must ensure that its direction and steps are carefully considered, he said. Â
