Baey Yam Keng on ensuring affordable creative workspaces for arts practitioners

The National Arts Council (NAC) supports the arts sector by providing workspaces at rates below commercial rental levels. It takes into account rising operational costs for maintenance and the need to ensure that the revised rates remain affordable. Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Baey Yam Keng highlighted this approach in reply to an MP’s questions in parliament on Wednesday (Apr 8). Turning to Goodman Arts Centre (GAC), he said although the Arts House Group (AHG), which is the appointed operator for GAC, has started to engage tenants on rate increases, it will defer increases in 2026 amid the economic uncertainty. NAC and AHG will review the rates at the end of this year for 2027, said Mr Baey.
