Baey Yam Keng on limiting makeshift smoking corners

04:34 Min

The number of smoking corners in coffee shops has been gradually decreasing, said Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and the Environment Baey Yam Keng. Replying to an MP’s questions in Parliament on Friday (Feb 16), he pointed out that makeshift smoking points are not prohibited unless they are in areas where smoking is not allowed. Owners of premises should be considerate and ensure that makeshift smoking points do not cause disamenities to the public. The National Environment Agency does not have plans to conduct studies or assessments, said Mr Baey. But it will look into feedback on any disamenities caused by makeshift smoking points and engage the relevant stakeholders on possible mitigating measures if there is a need to do so, he added.
