Beverage producers get S$2,500 grant ahead of container return scheme

02:46 Min

Beverage producers will receive up to S$2,500 in support to prepare for Singapore’s upcoming Beverage Container Return Scheme, which introduces a refundable 10-cent deposit on bottles and cans. While smaller importers and producers welcome the grant, some say it does not sufficiently offset costs such as producer fees, registration charges and labelling requirements. The National Environment Agency says it recognises differing impacts across businesses, with a review recommended in about two years. The grant is valid until the end of September next year. Claudia Lim reports.
