Budget 2021 debate: Koh Poh Koon on speeding up pay hikes for lower-wage workers

Singapore must address four areas to ensure wage progression among lower-wage workers, said NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Koh Poh Koon in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 24). The first is narrowing the gap between the 20th percentile and the 50th percentile of wage earners. Next is enhancing the Workfare Income Supplement to provide an immediate uplift. The last two involve the Progressive Wage Model - expanding it to cover more sectors more quickly and implementing a "vocational" version to cover remaining workers in job roles that are distributed across multiple sectors.
