Budget 2022 debate: Desmond Choo on support for 'Generation COVID'

10:44 Min

Younger Singaporeans are part of "Generation COVID" which faces unique challenges in the workplace. Singapore must ensure that these workers are well-prepared to face the uncertainties of the global economy, said MP Desmond Choo. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 1), he raised concerns that some younger Singaporeans have picked up skills which have become irrelevant, or are graduating into "depressed sectors", such as tourism-related industries. He suggested increasing subsidies for targeted SkillsFuture courses related to growth economies. He also suggested creating a one-stop centre for younger workers with career counselling, mentorship, internship and employment opportunities.
