Budget 2022 debate: Vikram Nair on 'vital' defence spending
Defence spending is "vital" to ensure that Singapore has the capability and resources to survive in the event of war. Singapore must remain committed to defence spending and national defence even during times of peace, said MP Vikram Nair. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 2), he said there will be many demands on the country's spending in the coming years. It is always tempting to say "cut defence spending" in times of peace, he said. "This would clearly be a mistake," he said. He stressed that Singapore must continue to maintain and build good and deep relations, as well as economic ties, with as many countries as possible.
