Budget 2023 debate: Ang Wei Neng on support for young families and elderly

09:16 Min

Childcare is a marathon and not a one-off effort after birth, said MP Ang Wei Neng in Parliament on Thursday (Feb 23). He urged the Government to consider increasing childcare leave to two days per child when the child is in primary school, up to a maximum of about four days a year. Acknowledging the additional housing support provided to families with children and young married couples, Mr Ang urged HDB to continue to increase the supply of shorter waiting time flats to 50 per cent and to shorten the waiting time for these flats to less than two years. He also offered suggestions to improve the Silver Housing Bonus scheme for elderly homeowners.
