Budget 2023 debate: Cheryl Chan on sustaining Singapore’s competitiveness
Singapore must sustain its economic competitiveness in the long run so that it can manage future challenges and have the financial wherewithal to provide for more diverse societal needs, said MP Cheryl Chan in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 22). She asked how far the Industry Transformation Maps and current skills training curricula have gone towards pushing boundaries, and what key industries Singapore is aiming to develop a competitive advantage in. She also called for direct channels for local workers and SMEs to learn from top global talent coming to Singapore, and to consider ways to tap the Government more as an innovator and change-maker rather than as a regular and facilitator.
