Budget 2023 debate: Dennis Tan on roadmap for accelerated green transition
Singapore needs a detailed roadmap for retraining workers in sectors affected by the drive to decarbonise its industries. Making this call in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 22), MP Dennis Tan said the management of businesses and workers in carbon-intensive sectors contributes to a "just transition". He pointed out that there is a time lag between the need to reskill and retrain workers and of them actually acquiring the skills and applying them to their existing job functions or in new roles. He called for stronger support for workers in making the green transition. He said it is even more critical to have an accelerated timeline for manpower transitions. Turning to support for seniors and aged care, Mr Tan stressed the need to serve their needs in a more holistic manner.
