Budget 2023 debate: Edward Chia on staying competitive by providing a higher value experience

15:27 Min

Singapore is no longer competing based on cost, but on perceived value. In this regard, soft skills such as customer service are critical and Singapore can do more to improve, said MP Edward Chia in Parliament on Thursday (Feb 23). He urged the Government to support employers to compete and stay relevant by providing higher value products and a better service experience. He also stressed the need to benchmark Singapore’s industries not just domestically but regionally, and highlighted two key areas - customer experience and human capital. Mr Chia also called on the authorities to support local enterprises to compete on environmental sustainability credentials. This includes helping them to adopt a national recognised standard of carbon accounting and build internal capabilities and tools to account for carbon.
