Budget 2024 debate: Darryl David on targeted support for seniors, young seniors and students
This year’s Budget has continued the trajectory of previous budgets, with the Government providing targeted support to assist specific groups of Singaporeans, said MP Darryl David. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Feb 26), he pointed out that while a significant portion of the Budget is focused on providing near-term support to help Singaporeans cope with the cost of living, the Budget is also looking into providing support for seniors and mid-career Singaporeans. He hopes the Government can accelerate the pace at which support programmes for seniors are being rolled out and consider how it can better cater to their needs and build robust and localised ecosystems for them to age with dignity. Mr David also urged the Government to refine the Additional Buyer's Stamp Duty scheme to support young seniors who are single, as well as enhance the personal learning device scheme to cover more students, specifically those in primary school.
