Budget 2024 debate: Eric Chua on more seamless support for people with disabilities and their caregivers
In Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 27), Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Social and Family Development Eric Chua shared some of the everyday challenges that people with disabilities and their caregivers face - in particular, “at the intersections of service provision”. He made three main points about how to improve the way care is planned and provided for those with special needs. First, involving caregivers closely when working with patients with disabilities. Second, ensuring that information such as individual circumstances and medical conditions is captured and shared across sectors ranging from social services to healthcare and transport. Third, fostering a culture of tighter collaboration among professionals across different disciplines. Mr Chua reiterated a point he had previously made about taking a case management approach that will support people with disabilities and their caregivers more systematically throughout the course of their lives.
