Budget 2024 debate: Jessica Tan on local businesses transforming to remain relevant
Global uncertainties and structural shifts driven by technology and climate change mean making fundamental shifts, said MP Jessica Tan. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Feb 26), she said to realise the full potential of growth, businesses including small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) need to have the capability to be part of the growth. She also highlighted the need for multinational enterprises (MNEs) and SMEs to collaborate. SMEs can level up by tapping on the expertise, financial strength and access to markets of MNEs, while MNEs understand the value of working with and building a strong network of local businesses, tapping on the potential of local markets and addressing gaps. It is a "win-win" for both, said Ms Tan.
