Chee Hong Tat on progress of autonomous vehicle development

05:38 Min

As of Jan 27 this year, 43 autonomous vehicles (AVs) have passed the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) Milestone 1 test and one has passed its Milestone 2 test, allowing trials on selected public roads with a safety operator in full control. The AV trials, which have been underway since 2014, have shown that capabilities need to be further developed before larger-scale deployment, particularly for public transport. These include perception and sensing capabilities under complex scenarios, in Singapore’s urban environment and during inclement weather conditions. LTA will facilitate further research and development and trials by AV companies. Senior Minister of State for Transport Chee Hong Tat said this in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 7) in answer to an MP’s questions.
