Cheng Hsing Yao on Carbon Pricing (Amendment) Bill
"When Singapore says it is going to do something, it will. That is one of our strengths," said NMP Cheng Hsing Yao. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 8), he stressed the need for flexibility and adaptability on the pathway to the final energy supply model. He also stressed the importance of energy and water security. He pointed out that green hydrogen could replace oil and natural gas. Singapore needs a similar strategy to plug into the "production, supply chain and market mechanism ecosystem of hydrogen", he said. The uninterrupted supply of electricity imports may be subjected to geopolitical risks, he said. He wanted to know how the Government will ensure that Singapore has stable, uninterrupted and reliable access to power, as well as manage potential fluctuation of power supply when a significant part is not produced domestically.
