Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 4: Foo Mee Har on giving private education institutions their own powers to award degrees

Singapore can encourage private education institutions (PEIs) to fill talent gaps in specialised fields and build best-in-class capabilities in niche areas, said MP Foo Mee Har in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 3). She suggested allowing PEIs with a proven track record, capabilities and academic rigour to have their own degree-awarding powers. Ms Foo said this would enable them to be independent of their overseas partners and have autonomy over curriculum design, development and delivery.
