Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 2: Leon Perera on foreign interference and caning in prison
The world is changing and geopolitical tensions are ratcheting up to levels not seen in recent memory, said MP Leon Perera. He said ministers would be extremely high-value targets for foreign interference. He wanted to know what kind of institutional checks the Ministry of Home Affairs has in place in this aspect. Speaking in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 3), he also voiced concern that there is "too little" independent oversight for the caning of inmates in prison. He asked if reform of the judicial element can be studied so that there is greater oversight.
