No one foresaw that the COVID-19 pandemic would take place, bringing the global airline industry to a halt and with it, manpower demand in the sector. Giving that example in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 3), MP Saktiandi Supaat said Singapore has to build in flexibility as it trains its workforce to be future-ready. He suggested that continuous learning and training programmes should feature general core modules applicable across groups of adjacent industries, with specialised electives that are industry-specific. Resources should also be put into reallocating talent with enhanced Professional Conversion Programmes and using technology for skills matching.
