Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 3: Patrick Tay on workplace fairness legislation
To safeguard the Singaporean core and curb discriminatory hiring, Singapore must ensure that local professionals, managers and executives have access to a level playing field for jobs while balancing companies' manpower needs, said MP Patrick Tay. Speaking in Parliament on Friday (Mar 4), he urged the Government to adopt a points system for employment pass applications which factors in sectoral input, employers' hiring and development of local workers and diversity of nationalities within companies. He sought updates on the effectiveness of the Fair Consideration Framework, Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices and the drive to "weed out the triple weak companies".
