Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 4: Gan Siow Huang on 're-tooling' through SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme

14:44 Min

A new programme will provide training support for Singaporeans and match them to employers. Called SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP), it will train Singaporeans through industry-related courses that last up to 12 months. These include attachments and projects, as well as post-training support. These allow trainees to enter sectors with good hiring opportunities, such as ICT and advanced manufacturing. They can receive up to 90 per cent of course fees, with additional support for those with greater needs. SCTP merges SGUnited Skills and SGUnited Mid-Career Pathways-Company Training. It will build on their experiences and incorporate features which have "worked well", said Minister of State for Education Gan Siow Huang. Speaking in  Parliament on Monday (Mar 7), she said Singapore's higher education institutions and adult training system must provide "re-tooling" opportunities for Singaporeans as they journey through different jobs over their career lifetime. She stressed that it is important to do this well to enable Singaporeans to remain employable and access good jobs.
