Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 5: Yip Hon Weng on improving seniors' safety at home
Singapore should take a more proactive approach towards improving the safety of seniors at home. Raising the issue in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 8), MP Yip Hon Weng said many seniors only apply for home improvement programmes like Enhancement for Active Seniors (EASE) to cater to impaired mobility after an accident or unexpected illness. He asked if senior-friendly features offered in new Community Care Apartments could be integrated into existing HDB estates with significant elderly populations. This would support efforts to allow seniors to “age in place”. Mr Yip also offered suggestions to improve the OneService app used by residents to give feedback on municipal issues.
