Dialysis centres are seeing a growing number of applications and MP Edward Chia offered suggestions to address this issue. He said hemodialysis centres could be co-located with polyclinics, nursing homes and transportation hubs for the convenience of patients, especially seniors. He also called for the promotion of alternative renal treatments, such as peritoneal dialysis, which is done at home, to address the rise in caseloads. With close to 70 per cent of kidney failure being the result of diabetes, Mr Chia added that the link between the two should be strengthened in public education messages as a preventive measure. He spoke in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 9).
