Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 6: Yip Hon Weng on primary care network, 'gatekeeping' specialist care

02:01 Min

Primary care is the first line of defence in the healthcare system. General practitioners (GPs) are critical to the care landscape to ease the pressure on the public healthcare system and manage chronic diseases, especially for the elderly. MP Yip Hon Weng, who highlighted this in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 9), asked about the progress in enrolling GPs into Singapore's primary care network. He also wanted to know if Singapore will introduce a "gatekeeping" model for specialist care, where patients are assigned to a GP of their choice, to reduce the tendency to "doctor hop".
