Singapore has been transforming its delivery of social services to provide more comprehensive, coordinated and convenient support. This approach is exemplified by Community Link (ComLink), which supports families with children living in public rental flats. A key element is building long-term relationships with the families to empower them to grow. A pair of befrienders is assigned to each family to serve as “a constant touchpoint”. The Ministry of Social and Family Development has seen “good results” from the befriender pilot and it will be scaled up this year, said Minister-in-charge of Social Services Integration Desmond Lee. Backroom integration across agencies that support ComLink families will also be strengthened. Mr Lee spoke in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 10).
