How have Singapore’s manufacturing and services sectors - traditionally strong drivers of the economy - performed over the past year and what is the Government doing to develop the sectors and create good jobs? MP Saktiandi Supaat asked this question in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 28). He said Singapore’s advanced manufacturing sector is well known for exporting petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and precision engineering products, but the carbon transition will disrupt these. Singapore is also a leader in financial services but developing economies are growing these capabilities and will vie for the pie. Mr Saktiandi asked the Government to identify growth and emerging industries and elaborate on how local companies can seize opportunities in those areas.
