Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 1: Alex Yam on transnational threats
The world faces a growing array of non-conventional security challenges including terrorism, cyberattacks and the spread of disinformation. These common threats transcend national borders and must be tackled with cooperation and coordination among countries. MP Alex Yam said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 28) and asked what strategies and initiatives are being undertaken by the Ministry of Defence on this front. In relation to that, he sought a progress report on the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Cybersecurity and Information Centre of Excellence (ACICE). The centre was officially launched in Singapore last July, amid growing digitalisation and the rising prevalence of cyberattacks, disinformation and misinformation.
