Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 1: Foo Mee Har on support for green transition
MP Foo Mee Har shared in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 28) that the inherently complex green transition necessitates a catalytic role from the Government and that its intervention will be instrumental in making the green transition a reality. She noted that a “true game changer” would be in mobilising private capital to fund climate projects, but pointed out that many projects are sub-scale and too risky for private capital to access, with innovative funding structures such as blended finance seen as a solution. Ms Foo also expressed an urgent need to support businesses to take action towards a net-zero goal so as to stay competitive and relevant. She also wanted to know how the Government is progressing in its goals and targets towards green procurement.
