Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 1: Gerald Giam on insurance coverage for people with disabilities or special needs
People with disabilities or special needs often get inadequate insurance coverage or none at all, said MP Gerald Giam in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 28). He asked when new guidelines for insurers will be issued and how they will be materially different or more beneficial to those affected. Mr Giam said that under the proposals, insurers are not prohibited from declining applications, setting higher premiums or applying conditions in view of the risks presented by an applicant with a disability.
