Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 1: Mariam Jaafar on integrating immigrants
With immigrants forming a significant share of Singapore’s population, social mixing is crucial for integration and these efforts should start from a young age, MP Mariam Jaafar said in Parliament on Wednesday (Feb 28). Noting that the vast majority of immigrant children attend international schools, she suggested that including these schools in the National School Games or forming joint sports teams between local and international schools could be one way to bring Singaporeans together with immigrant children and their parents.
