Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 2: Vikram Nair on Maintenance of Racial Harmony Act, Israel-Hamas conflict and public order
In Parliament on Thursday (Feb 29), MP Vikram Nair asked for an update to the proposed Maintenance of Racial Harmony Act. On the Israel-Hamas conflict, he noted that Singaporeans have been vocal on the issue but sympathies are divided, sometimes along religious and communal lines. He asked if the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had analysed the reactions of communities in this matter and if it is taking any steps to keep Singaporeans united in the face of such threats. He also wanted to know if MHA has any guidance or suggestions on outlets where people can share views on this matter and remain safe.
