Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 4: He Ting Ru on anti-discrimination at the workplace
With the tripartite committee recommending that the Workplace Fairness Legislation (WFL) only cover direct discrimination, this means that workers may still be exposed to indirect discrimination, discrimination-related harassment, as well as discrimination by association and perceptions, said MP He Ting Ru in Parliament on Monday (Mar 4). She asked the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) if it would be made clear that all of these different forms of discrimination are prohibited under the guidelines. She also asked if MOM will commit to a timeline to update the WFL to protect Singaporeans from all forms of discrimination in the workplace in the next five years. Ms He also wanted to know if workers will be protected from retaliation for reporting forms of discrimination that are not prohibited under WFL.
