Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 5: Dennis Tan on PMAs
In Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 5), MP Dennis Tan asked if the proposed speed for personal mobility aids (PMAs) can be slightly higher than 6kmh, at least on less busy paths. He noted that PMAs provide seniors with the confidence to be out and about and suggested that the use of PMAs be extended to seniors reaching a certain age, for example 67 or 70. He also expressed hope that the Ministry of Transport will consider more stringent enforcement measures to deter speeding for all mobility devices, including measures against shops that help to tweak the speed mechanisms of devices. He also said that the Land Transport Authority must consider how to push out messaging on the new rules via mainstream and social media to achieve good public knowledge and consciousness.
