Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 6: Carrie Tan on enlivening preschool education
The childcare sector, which must be child-centric, must be teacher-centric as well for quality education to be sustainable, said MP Carrie Tan. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 6), she suggested that assessors for the Singapore Preschool Accreditation Framework (SPARK) make more frequent and random visits to observe classroom interactions rather than rely on a paper audit exercise. This will ensure that the teachers’ attention is on the children and not on completing paperwork meticulously. She also suggested that teachers, whose main job is to teach and nurture children, be partnered with a Child Development Specialist on documentation and observation work.
