In Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 6), Deputy Speaker Christopher de Souza dealt with the expenditure estimates for the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY). MP Sitoh Yih Pin then highlighted the possible need for a rethink of Singapore’s racial and cultural classifications due to increasing inter-ethnic and transnational marriages. He also said it is apparent that how Singapore manages the arts, heritage and culture, sports and community sectors will have a deep impact on the way its social compact will evolve. He stressed the need to include youths in these conversations as they are the next generation of Singaporeans. He asked MCCY to share its plans and strategies to expand opportunities to build a vibrant and cohesive home that empowers all Singaporeans to excel and achieve their diverse aims.
