Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 2: Alex Yam on enhancing realism in SAF training
Rigorous and realistic training for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is of utmost importance, said MP Alex Yam in parliament on Monday (Mar 3), where he noted that modern conflicts increasingly involve dense urban settings and hybrid tactics, requiring SAF soldiers to be adaptable, quick-thinking and responsive to rapidly changing situations. Urban warfare also presents unique challenges, he said, and Singapore’s servicemen must not only master their equipment, but also develop the mental equity to seize opportunities amidst complex situations. For troops to remain prime for the demands of ever more complex battlegrounds, Mr Yam wanted to know how the Ministry of Defence will continue to refine its training methodology both overseas and here at home.
