Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 3: Amy Khor on collective effort to achieve climate ambitions

18:05 Min

The government will set aside around S$300 million for an Energy Efficiency Fund for public sector buildings. The fund will invest in worthwhile projects over the next five years to help public sector facilities contribute towards Singapore’s climate targets, pay back through cost savings and generate excess savings in the long term. Eligible projects could include retrofitting energy-consuming systems or installation of smart systems to optimise energy efficiency. It could cover facilities such as office premises, hospitals and MRT stations. The fund can help with the test-bedding of innovative and cost-effective solutions. Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Amy Khor, who announced the fund in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 4), said public sector leadership could catalyse energy efficiency improvements in private sector buildings. Dr Khor also told the House that guidelines have been developed to reduce waste in e-commerce packaging. She stressed that sustainability requires a collective effort - advancing green initiatives, improving energy efficiency and promoting resource resilience will put Singapore on track to achieve its climate ambitions.
