Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 4: Dennis Tan on tackling noise nuisance on public transport
With excessive noise continuing to be a problem on public buses and trains, Singapore can move beyond mascots, reminders and courtesy campaigns to create lasting behavioural change, said MP Dennis Tan. He suggested setting a clear decibel threshold for disruptive noise, empowering transport staff with real-time monitoring tools and the legal authority to enforce rules, and having a penalty framework that is proportionate yet impactful. Mr Tan spoke in parliament on Wednesday (Mar 5).
