Workforce flexibility is key to enhancing productivity and business scalability, said NMP Mark Lee in parliament on Thursday (Mar 6). He asked about the progress of studies on expanding cross-deployment of foreign workers beyond sectoral boundaries. Mr Lee wanted to know how feasible it would be to introduce a composite Dependency Ratio Ceiling for companies expanding into adjacent industries with transferable skillsets, allowing them to scale without being constrained by sector-specific foreign worker quotas. He also suggested that the government work with trade associations and chambers to identify companies keen on developing a framework for structured pilots.
