Polytechnic common entry programmes (CEPs) have expanded significantly, allowing students to explore different fields before selecting a specialisation, said MP Wan Rizal in parliament on Thursday (Mar 6). Noting that one in every four polytechnic students is entering CEPs, he asked the Ministry of Education (MOE) for insights on how they have benefited, if students have gained greater clarity in choosing their specialisation and whether retention rates have improved. Turning to teachers’ workloads, Dr Wan Rizal noted that teachers are at the heart of Singapore’s education system, but many are burdened with administrative duties, taking their time away from students. He noted that technology can help streamline these processes, highlighting the pilot feature on the Parents Gateway app to digitalise absent submissions. Beyond this, he also wanted to know what digital solutions are being explored to reduce teachers’ workloads.
