Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 1: Elysa Chen on enhancing postpartum and caregiver support
Supporting parents of young children is key to making Singapore a home for families and addressing the country’s population decline, said MP Elysa Chen in parliament on Thursday (Feb 26). She proposed structured in-home postpartum visits where trained maternity nurses guide new parents, identify signs of stress or financial difficulty and coordinate follow-up support. She also asked about plans to better support the economic reintegration of stay-home parents and caregivers. She suggested a “career comeback tax incentive” to provide relief for employers who intentionally hire them.
