Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 3: Denise Phua on Singapore's education 'arms race'

04:13 Min

The education "arms race" in Singapore is real and it now has three fronts - the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE), Direct Schools Admissions (DSA) and AI acceleration, said MP Denise Phua. Speaking in parliament on Monday (Mar 2), she suggested that the Ministry of Education consider a “carefully safeguarded, voluntary, 10-year through-trained pilot from Primary 1 to Secondary 4". She stressed that dismantling the PSLE, DSA and AI-driven "arms race" is only the beginning of redesigning education for the long race ahead.
