Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 4: Yeo Wan Ling on accessing skilled foreign workers
Singapore is going through a period of profound labour change, where it is seeing the effects of an ageing demographic and a historically low total fertility rate. Alongside these changes, more Singaporeans are choosing platform work and the advent of AI is already beginning to transform the very nature of work. MP Yeo Wan Ling made these observations in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 3). She noted that there are limits to how Singapore can expand its foreign workforce, given infrastructural constraints and the nation’s social capacity. She said that the government’s manpower strategy must therefore focus on transformation, not substitution.
