Darryl David on Private Security Industry (Amendment) Bill
Security officers are among frontliners who are likely facing additional psychological stress amid COVID-19, from having to interact more with the public and take on extra duties such as enforcing safe management measures. So apart from protecting them from abuse and harassment, their mental and emotional well-being should be taken care of too. Making that point in Parliament on Tuesday (Oct 5), MP Darryl David asked the Government to consider implementing an industry-wide Employee Assistance Programme to help security officers cope with work-related and personal problems. He also said more could be done to improve their working conditions, such as by mandating minimum standards for rest areas.
