David Neo on support and funding for national athletes
The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) recently concluded its latest review of cash incentives and recognition for local athletes and should be ready to announce updates soon. Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo said this in parliament on Tuesday (Jan 13). He was answering MPs’ questions on expanding support for national athletes, including a suggestion that SEA Games silver and bronze medallists be recognised under the Major Games Award Programme. On assessing the outcomes of support schemes, Mr Neo said it comes down to athletes’ ability to reach their fullest potential, but also their holistic development and how they give back to their sport and to the community.
