Denise Phua on Registration of Criminals (Amendment) Bill
It is important to protect individual privacy, personal data collected and the vulnerable, said MP Denise Phua. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Sep 12), she wanted to know how the Ministry of Home Affairs decided on its additional list of offences for DNA collection. On the protection of the personal data that has been collected, she wanted to know what additional safeguards are in place to ensure that the database, especially DNA information, is better protected. As for protection of the vulnerable, she urged the authorities to learn from the experience of guiding and managing people with special needs and disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic when they collect personal data from them to solve crimes.
