Dennis Tan on COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Amendment No. 4) Bill

07:09 Min

In Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 14), MP Dennis Tan expressed concern about whether requirements on tenants to qualify for two weeks’ rental waiver from private commercial landlords might be too onerous for smaller businesses. He asked if other documentary evidence apart from profit and loss statements could be provided and if the 28-day time limit could be made more flexible. Mr Tan also wondered if the Act could have been drafted to provide for the rental waiver framework to apply generally if COVID-19 controls have to be tightened again, instead of having to move another amendment Bill in future.
